Payment methods and ACH

Fund your wallet by bank transfer (ACH) or card. We recommend ACH — it's the lowest-cost way to pay. Here's how to add a method, what the processing fee is, and what happens if a transfer is returned.

You fund your Valian wallet one of two ways: a bank transfer (ACH) or a card. Both work, and both keep your prepaid balance topped up. We recommend ACH because it's the lowest-cost way to pay. This article covers how to add or change a method, the small processing fee for each, and what to do if a transfer is returned.

Tip

Bank transfer (ACH) is the recommended method. Its processing fee is small and capped, so more of every dollar you load goes toward actual usage.

Add or update a payment method

Open the Billing tab and find your payment method. You'll see the method on file and its status (for example, "Bank account, verified").
Add a bank account for ACH. Enter your account details and confirm it. Once the account shows verified, it can fund reloads.
Or add a card. Enter the card details if you'd rather pay that way. A small processing fee applies to card reloads (see below).
Set the method that funds auto-reload. Choose which method Valian uses when the wallet tops up. Turn on auto-reload in The prepaid wallet, auto-reload, and pause.

Bank transfer (ACH) — recommended

An ACH bank transfer pulls funds directly from your practice's bank account. After you add the account, it's confirmed once and then shows as verified. From then on, both manual reloads and auto-reload draw from it. ACH is the recommended method because its fee is the smallest and it's built for recurring business payments.

Paying by card

Cards are supported too, and some practices prefer them for rewards or cash-flow timing. A small processing fee applies to card reloads. Debit and prepaid cards are never surcharged — the fee only applies to standard credit-card reloads.

Processing fees

Valian passes through the payment processor's cost — it isn't a Valian markup:

Bank transfer (ACH): 0.8%, capped at $5.00. A $1,000 load costs about $1,005.
Credit card: 2.9% + $0.30 on a reload. A $1,000 load costs about $1,029.30.
Debit and prepaid cards: never surcharged.

In both cases your wallet still receives the full amount you loaded — the fee is added on top and shown clearly at reload and on your invoice.

Note

Choosing ACH keeps your cost lowest. Billing terms, including processing fees, are governed by your Valian agreement and can change over time; any change applies to your account going forward.

If a transfer is returned

If a bank transfer is returned — for example, the account has changed — Amy auto-pauses so nothing runs up unexpectedly, and your team gets an alert. Update or re-verify the payment method, reload the wallet, and service resumes right away. The full flow is in The prepaid wallet, auto-reload, and pause.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper, ACH or card? ACH. Its fee is 0.8% capped at $5.00, versus 2.9% + $0.30 for a credit card. On a $1,000 load that's roughly $5 by bank versus about $29 by card.

Is my bank and card information safe? Yes. Valian never stores your full card or bank account numbers. Payments run through a PCI-compliant payment processor that handles those details securely.

Can I change my payment method any time? Yes. Add, remove, or switch the default method on the Billing tab whenever you need to. Changes apply to your next reload.

Where does the processing fee show up? It's shown at the moment you reload and itemized on your invoice, so the total is never a surprise. See Reading your invoice.
