What happens during your first week live
Amy goes live the moment your setup wizard is done — no learning period to wait out. Here's what your first week looks like, what to check each day, and how your number transfer runs quietly in the background.
Updated Jul 9, 2026
Your first week is simpler than most people expect. There is no long training window and no "learning mode" to sit through. The moment you finish the setup wizard, everything you entered syncs into Amy and she starts handling the front desk that same minute — answering calls, replying to texts, and booking into your real schedule. This article walks you through what to expect and what's worth a quick look each day.
Note
Amy is autonomous from the start. You do not wait for her to "listen in" first. That means the best thing you can do in week one is watch what she's already doing and tune the details to match how your practice really runs.
Day one: Amy is already answering
As soon as your wizard is complete and your number is forwarded, patients who call get Amy. Try it yourself: ring your main line from a cell phone and ask to book a checkup. Amy should pick up within about a ring, greet you with your practice name, and put the appointment on your schedule. If that works, you're live. Full setup details are in Connecting your practice to Amy.
What to check each morning
You don't have to manage Amy, but two screens are worth a glance with your coffee:
- Today — every call, booking, text, and missed-call recovery from the day, as it happens. This is your at-a-glance pulse on what the front desk did.
- What needs to get done — the short list of things Amy handed to a human: a callback to confirm, a verification that needs eyes, a question only your team can answer. Clearing this tab is the one daily habit that keeps everything moving.
Spending five minutes here each morning tells you Amy is doing her job and surfaces anything that needs you.
Tune Amy as you go
Week one is when you'll notice the small things you want to adjust — maybe the greeting wording, a provider's real hours, or a policy you forgot to add. All of it is editable any time in Settings, and changes take effect on Amy's very next call. A few common first-week tweaks:
- Fix your open hours, holidays, and time off — see Setting your hours, holidays and greeting.
- Adjust your greeting and what always reaches a person in Amy's greeting and escalation rules.
- Invite the rest of your team so they can work the day-to-day — Inviting your team and setting roles.
Your onboarding check-ins
In your first 30 days you'll have three short check-in calls with our team. These aren't sales calls — they're working sessions to make sure Amy is tuned to your practice, answer your questions, and confirm you're getting full value. They also count toward keeping your onboarding credit. See How the $1,000 credit works for the full checklist.
Your number transfer runs in the background
If you asked us to move your existing phone number onto Valian for good, that transfer (plus messaging approval) usually takes about two to four weeks. You don't have to wait on it. Because your number is forwarded to Amy from day one, calls and texts flow the whole time — the transfer finishes quietly in the background with no gap in service.
Finish your training
The Help Center has a set of short, Amy-voiced training videos that walk through daily operation: using the schedule, working the tasks tab, checking insurance, and more. They take about an hour total, and finishing them is one line on your credit checklist. Your progress tracks itself, so there's nothing to submit.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a trial or learning period before Amy takes calls? No. Amy is live and autonomous the moment your wizard is done. There's no waiting period to sit through.
What if Amy gets something wrong in the first few days? Adjust it in Settings and it applies on her next call. Most first-week fixes are small — a greeting word, a provider's hours, a policy — and anything Amy is unsure of already comes to you in What needs to get done rather than being guessed at.
Do I need to be at my desk for Amy to work? No. Amy answers whether or not anyone is watching the dashboard. The Today and Tasks tabs are there so you can check in, not so you have to babysit the phone.
When should I do my check-in calls? Space them across your first 30 days. Your onboarding contact will help you schedule them, and they're part of keeping your onboarding credit.
Who do I ask if something feels off? Submit a ticket from the Help Center, or email onboarding@valiansystems.com. See The Help Center and how to get support.
