Where do I see what insurance Amy verified?
Every check Amy runs lands in two places — the Insurance tab and the patient's timeline. Here's how to find the eligibility breakdown and read the verification status at a glance.
Updated Jul 9, 2026
When Amy verifies a patient's insurance, the result never disappears into a black box. It shows up in two places you already use: the Insurance tab, which is a full lookup console for any patient, and the patient's own timeline. Both read from the same check, so whichever you open, you're looking at exactly what the payer sent back.
Tip
You don't have to know a patient's appointment time to find their coverage. Open the Insurance tab and search their name — the latest verification loads instantly.
The Insurance tab: your coverage console
The Insurance tab is the fastest way to see what Amy verified. It opens on a Recent patients list and a search box, so you can pull up anyone in seconds.
Pick a patient and their coverage snapshot loads, laid out in cards:
- Plan summary — the four numbers your front desk reaches for most: annual max remaining, deductible (individual and family, met vs. remaining), out-of-pocket max, and whether the plan is in-network or out-of-network.
- Coverage by category — the payer's coverage percentages for preventive, basic, and major work.
- Special clauses & limitations — frequency limits, waiting periods, pre-auth flags, and anything else the payer returned.
- Plan basics — member ID, subscriber name and date of birth, group, payer ID, and effective and termination dates.
- Cards on file — the front and back card photos, if the patient sent one.
- Verification history — every check that has ever run on this plan, newest first, so you can see when and how coverage was last confirmed.
To read what each of those numbers means, see Reading the eligibility breakdown.
Find a specific patient's coverage
- Open the Insurance tab. It lands on your recent patients and a search box.
- Search the patient by name. Start typing and the list filters as you go.
- Select the patient. Their coverage snapshot loads with the most recent verification already showing.
- Read the status pill in the header to confirm the check is fresh (more on that below), then scroll the cards for the full breakdown.
Read the verification status at a glance
The pill next to the patient's name tells you the state of the last check, so you're never guessing whether "verified" is still good:
- Verified 2 hours ago (green) — the check succeeded and is current.
- Verification running (blue, pulsing) — a live check is in progress right now.
- Verification expired (amber) — the plan was verified before, but the check is old enough to re-run before the visit.
- Verification failed — see why (red) — the payer rejected the request. Click it for a plain-English explanation and the field to fix. Walk through it in A verification failed — what do I do?.
- Coverage terminated / inactive — see why (red) — the payer says the plan isn't active. Click for details.
- Never verified (grey) — no check has run yet on this plan.
Note
Amy reports what the payer returns. A green Verified pill confirms eligibility and benefits as of the check — it is not a guarantee of payment. Claims decisions always sit with the payer.
The patient's timeline
Every verification is also written to the patient's timeline as its own entry, tagged with the date and the payer's response. This is handy when you're already looking at a patient's history — you see the coverage check right alongside their calls, texts, and appointments, in order. The timeline entry links back to the same breakdown you'd see in the Insurance tab.
What if a check needs your attention
If a payer couldn't answer electronically, or a member ID has a typo, Amy doesn't guess. She flags the plan and drops a task into What needs to get done so nothing slips. Clearing that task usually means fixing one field and pressing Re-verify — see Re-running an insurance check.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to start a verification myself to see it? No. Amy runs the check automatically when she books a patient who gives a member ID, so most coverage is already waiting for you. You only step in when a check needs a fix. See How Amy verifies insurance in real time.
A patient has two plans — where's the second one? Both appear on the same coverage snapshot, ranked primary and secondary. Each plan carries its own verification status and history.
Why does the Insurance tab say "Snapshot unavailable"? That means no successful check has landed yet — usually because the plan was just added, is still verifying, or the last check failed. Check the status pill and re-verify if needed.
Can I see coverage for a patient who isn't booked? Yes. The Insurance tab searches every patient in your practice, not just today's schedule.
