Re-running an insurance check

Press Re-verify to run a fresh, live eligibility check against the payer — after fixing a typo, before a visit, or any time coverage might have changed.

Updated Jul 9, 2026

A verification is a snapshot in time — accurate the moment it ran. When something changes, or a check is old, you don't have to call the payer or start over. Press Re-verify and Amy sends a brand-new, real-time request to the payer and refreshes the whole breakdown in seconds.

Tip

Most re-runs happen for you automatically. Amy re-checks upcoming appointments on her own, so a plan is usually fresh before the patient walks in. You'll mainly re-run by hand after fixing a field or when a patient tells you something changed.

When to re-run a check

  • After you fix a field. Corrected a member ID, birth year, or subscriber name? Re-verify so the change is confirmed against the payer. See A verification failed — what do I do?.
  • When the check is expired. An amber Verification expired pill means it's old enough to re-run before you quote anything.
  • Before a major visit. For crowns, implants, or anything expensive, a fresh check gives you the most current annual max and deductible.
  • When coverage may have changed. New year, new employer, or the patient mentions a plan change — re-verify to catch it.
  • After a partial response or timeout. If the payer was slow or sent incomplete detail, waiting a couple of minutes and re-running usually returns the full picture.

How to re-run a check

  1. Open the patient in the Insurance tab, or open their profile and go to their insurance.
  2. Find the Re-verify button in the patient header, next to the verification status pill. (It also sits on the plan itself.)
  3. Press Re-verify. The button reads Verifying… while the request goes to the payer in real time.
  4. Read the refreshed result. In a few seconds the status pill updates, the Plan summary and Coverage by category refresh, and a new entry is added to Verification history.

What changes after a re-run

Every re-run is a genuine new request to the payer, so the whole snapshot updates at once:

  • The status pill re-stamps to "Verified just now" on success — or shows the current failure reason if the payer still rejects it.
  • The numbers refresh — annual max, deductible, and coverage percentages reflect the payer's latest.
  • Verification history gains a dated entry, so you keep a full audit trail of every check that ran and when.

Note

A completed verification is a metered action, the same as a call Amy answers or a text she sends — it draws down your wallet in the normal way. Re-running when it matters is exactly what the tool is for; you don't need to ration it. For how usage works, see How the $1,000 credit works.

If the re-run fails again

A repeated failure usually points at the data, not the payer. Open the see why explainer, check the flagged field against the patient's card one character at a time, and re-verify once more. If everything matches and it still fails, request a fresh card photo, or the payer's system may be temporarily down — try again shortly. The full playbook is in A verification failed — what do I do?.

Frequently asked questions

How often does Amy re-verify on her own? Amy automatically re-checks patients with upcoming appointments so their coverage is current before the visit. You rarely need to start one by hand — mostly after a fix or a reported change. See How Amy verifies insurance in real time.

Will re-running overwrite the old result? It doesn't erase anything. The latest result becomes what you see up top, and the previous checks stay in Verification history for reference.

The Re-verify button is greyed out — why? It's disabled while a check is already running (the pill reads "Verification running"). Give it a moment; the button returns when the result lands.

Can I re-verify a patient who isn't on today's schedule? Yes. The Insurance tab searches every patient in your practice, so you can re-run a check any time — no appointment required. See Where do I see what insurance Amy verified?.
