Open Dental is built by Open Dental Software and runs as server or self-hosted cloud. Practices that run it are usually in general dentistry. Open source at the database layer, which is why so many groups customize it. Valian sits on top of it: nothing is replaced, nothing is migrated, and your team keeps charting and billing in Open Dental exactly as it does today.
How the direct Open Dental connection will work
Practices running the cloud version of Open Dental connect with the credentials they already sign in with. Practices running Open Dental on a machine in the office use a small secure connector, installed on that machine in one short scheduled session. Your office manager confirms which version you are on during onboarding, and working that out is our job rather than theirs.
Going live with Open Dental
You do not have to wait for the connection to be finished before Amy starts working.
