Pricing a treatment: what the patient pays
Build procedures turns a verified plan into a price: add the treatments, and see your fees, what insurance pays, and what the patient pays. It is saved on the patient.
Updated Sep 28, 2026
Once a patient's check comes back verified, you can tell them what a visit will cost them. Build procedures uses your own fees (from Settings › Services) and the coverage the carrier gave you today.
Price a treatment
- On the Verification page, click the patient's row to open it. Build procedures sits beside Plan basics and Coverage by category.
- Type a code or a name, like D2740 or crown. Your own services are marked your service, with your fee. Pick the one you want.
- For work on a tooth, type the tooth number.
- Add more treatments the same way.
The price updates as you go:
- Fees: your fees for everything you added.
- Insurance pays: what the plan should pay.
- Patient pays: what the patient should owe.
How the price is worked out
- Any deductible the patient still has left comes out of basic and major work first. Preventive care, like cleanings and exams, skips it.
- The plan then pays its percentage for each kind of care. For example, a $1,025 crown on a plan that pays 50% for major work, with the deductible already met: insurance pays $513 and the patient pays $512.
- The plan never pays more than what is left of the annual max. When it runs out, the note The annual max applies to this visit shows, and the patient pays the rest.
Note
This is an estimate from what the carrier reported today. It does not know about claims the carrier has not processed yet, or limits like how often a service is covered. Check Coverage by category and the special clauses on the full report before a big treatment.
A code that is not on your list
When you pick a code you have no fee for, its line turns amber: Not in your services (or No price yet). Type your price and click Save. It is saved to your services, so every result prices it from now on. Until it has a price, that line is left out of what the patient pays.
It is saved on the patient
The treatments stay on the patient's record, so anyone at your office can quote the same price later. The full benefits report shows the same plan, under Procedures. To take a treatment off, click the × on its line.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send the estimate to the patient? Not from here. Read the numbers to the patient, or copy them into your own message.
Why is a line left out? Either it has no price yet, or the carrier did not report a coverage percentage for that kind of care. A note under the price says which.
