Running a check for one patient
Add the patient, add their card with every box filled in, and click Save and verify. The answer comes back in a few seconds.
Updated Sep 28, 2026
Every check starts on the Verification page. You click every check yourself, so you always know what was sent and when.
A patient who is new to you
- Click New verification at the top of the page. You can also type a name in the search box. When nobody matches, the list offers Add "that name" as a new patient.
- In Add patient, type the patient's legal first and last name, the way it is printed on the insurance card. Add their date of birth too. Phone and email are optional.
- Click Add patient. If someone like this is already on file, we ask before we add anyone. Pick Same person, use their record, or, when the phone number is shared, A family member on this number.
- The patient's page opens with Add insurance. Fill in the card: Carrier (your own carriers are listed first), Member ID, Plan type, Group number, Relationship, the policy holder's name and date of birth, the Policy holder SSN (all 9 digits), and the policy holder's street address, city, state and ZIP.
- Click Save and verify. The answer comes back in a few seconds: active or not, what is covered, and what is left this year.
Tip
Is the patient on a parent's or a spouse's plan? Change Relationship before you fill in the policy holder boxes. See Patients on someone else's plan.
A patient already on your list
Type a name, date of birth, phone number, email or member ID in the search box. On the patient's row, click Verify now, or Re-verify if they were checked before.
When a box is empty
An empty box turns red, and one warning above the button names them, for example "3 boxes are empty: SSN, street address, ZIP". The button then reads Verify anyway.
You can still verify. But the carrier has less to go on, and a check we can't find is only free when every required box was filled in. If a box was empty and we can't find the plan, that check is billed.
The boxes every check needs:
- The patient's legal name and date of birth
- The carrier and the member ID
- The policy holder's full Social Security number
- The policy holder's home address (the patient's own, when they hold the plan)
- For a patient on someone else's plan: the policy holder's name and date of birth
